How it works
- 1
Sit it in one go
30 questions, 30 minutes, on your phone or computer. Each question has its own time; no going back. Leaving the page is recorded but never stops the exam: a clean pass is certified, a pass with leaving gets a training certificate.
- 2
Your name and email at the end. The score and the domain breakdown arrive free by email.
- 3
Pass at 70%
You get a certificate with a number and a QR code. Valid one year, renewed free by passing again.
- 4
Challenge a colleague
Every result comes with a challenge link. Exam starts from your link are counted to you.
Sample questions
Three questions from the bank, with the answer and the reference. The real paper has 30.
Q1During a shutdown, a valve 6 m up on a pipe rack must be closed. It can also be operated from grade with an extension spindle that is already fitted. What should the planner choose first?
- Operate it from grade with the spindle, so no one goes up
- Send one operator up a ladder wearing a twin lanyard clipped to the rack
- Use a boom lift with the operator clipped to the basket anchor point
- Erect a guarded scaffold first, because collective protection always comes before anything else
Answer: Operate it from grade with the spindle, so no one goes up The first step of the hierarchy is to avoid work at height where reasonably practicable; guardrails only come in once the work at height cannot be avoided. Work at Height Regulations 2005 (UK). Verify against the latest edition.
Q2Under UK practice, no gap between guardrail components may exceed 470 mm. On a platform you measure: toe board 150 mm high, intermediate rail at 470 mm, top rail at 950 mm. Which statement is correct?
- Compliant: the top rail is at 950 mm and the toe board is at least 150 mm
- Not compliant: the gap above the toe board is 470 mm
- Compliant: all three gaps are below 470 mm
- Not compliant: the gap between intermediate and top rail is 480 mm
Answer: Not compliant: the gap between intermediate and top rail is 480 mm Intermediate to top rail is 950 − 470 = 480 mm, above the 470 mm limit; the gap above the toe board is only 470 − 150 = 320 mm. Work at Height Regulations 2005 (UK). Verify against the latest edition.
Q3A scaffolder clips a 2.0 m energy-absorbing lanyard to a ledger at foot level. His dorsal D-ring is 1.5 m above his feet. What is his free-fall distance before the lanyard starts to arrest him?
- 3.5 m
- 2.0 m
- 5.5 m
- 1.5 m
Answer: 3.5 m Free fall = height of the D-ring above the anchor + lanyard length = 1.5 + 2.0 = 3.5 m; 2.0 m forgets that the D-ring starts above the anchor. NASC SG4:22. Verify against the latest edition.
