How it works

  1. 1

    Sit it in one go

40 questions, 40 minutes, on your phone or computer. Each question has its own time; no going back. Leaving the page is recorded but never stops the exam: a clean pass is certified, a pass with leaving gets a training certificate.

  2. 2

Your name and email at the end. The score and the domain breakdown arrive free by email.

  3. 3

    Pass at 70%

You get a certificate with a number and a QR code. Valid one year, renewed free by passing again.

  4. 4

    Challenge a colleague

Every result comes with a challenge link. Exam starts from your link are counted to you; the top 3 each month get a free full review.

Sample questions

Three questions from the bank, with the answer and the reference. The real paper has 40.

Q1You are about to climb to the third lift to pass up fittings. Your hard hat has a chin strap. What should you do with the strap?
  1. Leave it loose so the hat stays cooler in the heat
  2. Fasten it only if the wind becomes strong on the scaffold
  3. Fasten it under your chin so the hat cannot fall off
  4. Cut it off because it can catch on tubes

Answer: Fasten it under your chin so the hat cannot fall off At height a hard hat without a fastened chin strap can fall off when you bend or look up. You lose your head protection and the hat becomes a falling object. HSE guidance. Verify against the latest edition.

Q2You are starting a new independent tied scaffold. The ground has been checked. What is the first erection step?
  1. Lay the boards for the first working platform
  2. Set out sole boards and base plates at the standard positions
  3. Fix the ties to the building at first lift height
  4. Fit the guardrails first, before any of the standards are erected

Answer: Set out sole boards and base plates at the standard positions Erection starts from a correct base: sole boards and base plates set out at the planned standard positions, then standards, ledgers and transoms. NASC TG20:21. Verify against the latest edition.

Q3On sites that use the green/yellow/red tag system, a scaffold has a green tag, signed and dated by the inspector. What does this mean?
  1. It is still being built, and only scaffolders may go on it
  2. It is unsafe and must not be used by anyone
  3. It has been inspected and is safe to use within its limits
  4. It may be used, but only with a harness clipped on at all times

Answer: It has been inspected and is safe to use within its limits A green tag means the scaffold has been inspected and is safe for normal use, within any limits written on the tag. Site scaffold tagging procedure. Verify against the latest edition.

Anyone. It is written for trainee and basic scaffolders. There is no degree check; the certificate is issued when you pass in one timed sitting.

Is this a CISRS test or card?

No. It is an independent AL-YASSIN exam based on common scaffolding good practice. It is not issued, approved or endorsed by CISRS, NASC, Saudi Aramco or any body, and it does not replace any card, training or client approval your site requires.

How many questions, and how long?

40 questions in 40 minutes, one sitting, drawn fresh from a bank of 160 questions. Each question has its own time and you cannot go back. Pass 70%, merit 85%.

What language are the questions in?

English, with an Arabic translation line under every question and answer if you choose it. The English text is the one that is marked.

What does it cost?

Sitting the exam, seeing your score and getting the certificate when you pass are free. No payment.

How long is the certificate valid?

One year. Renew it free by passing the exam again. Anyone can check a certificate by its number or QR code at alyassinscaffold.com/verify.

When is a certificate issued?

A pass without leaving the exam page earns the AL-YASSIN certified certificate (AYX); a pass after leaving the page earns an AL-YASSIN training certificate (AYP) that shows how many times the page was left. The exam is never stopped.
