Scaffold contractor readiness check

25 yes, partly or no questions on how you run scaffolding: people, inspection, design, materials and access. You get a score at once, your weakest areas and what to fix first. It is the kind of thing a client's pre-qualification or audit team asks about.

Yes = 2 marks, partly = 1, no = 0. Your answers stay on this device unless you ask for the result by email.

People and competence

  1. Every scaffold supervisor and inspector on your sites holds the card or certificate your client requires, and you keep a register with each expiry date.

Client rules · Saudi Aramco GI 8.001 and CSM on Aramco sites
  2. Scaffolds are erected, altered and dismantled only by trained scaffolders, under a named supervisor on site.

    GI 8.001 · TG20:21
  3. New scaffolders and supervisors are tested before they go to site, not hired on their papers alone.

    Client pre-qualification · good practice
  4. Crews get a toolbox talk on the day's scaffold hazards, recorded with the names of those who attended.

    Client HSE rules
  5. You can show, for each site, the list of people allowed to inspect scaffolds and sign tags.

    GI 8.001 · client rules

Inspection and tagging

  1. Every scaffold is inspected before first use, and the tag is signed and dated before anyone climbs.

    GI 8.001 · CSM II-2
  2. Scaffolds are re-inspected at the interval your client sets, and after any alteration, storm or incident.

    Client rules · GI 8.001 · CSM II-2
  3. You keep a scaffold register (number, location, type, load class, tag status, next inspection) that is correct today.

    Client audits · good practice
  4. Unfinished or failed scaffolds carry a "do not use" tag, and the access is closed off.

    GI 8.001 · CSM II-2
  5. Inspection findings are closed out, with a record of who fixed what and when.

    Good practice

Design and temporary works

  1. Scaffolds outside the standard set-ups (cantilevers, suspended, heavy duty, tall, sheeted, loading bays) have a design checked before erection.

    TG20:21 · TG30:24 · BS 5975 · client rules
  2. The load class is decided for each scaffold before erection and written on the tag.

    BS EN 12811-1 · GI 8.001
  3. Ties are planned, and a tie is moved only with the supervisor's approval and a replacement fitted first.

    TG20:21 · CSM II-2
  4. Foundations are checked before erection: the ground or deck, sole boards and base plates, and loads on gratings or slabs.

    TG20:21 · CSM II-2
  5. You have a temporary works procedure: who designs, who checks, and who allows loading and striking.

    BS 5975

Materials and yard

  1. Tubes, fittings and boards are checked on receipt against their specification (for example BS EN 39 tubes, BS EN 74 couplers, or the system maker's data).

    BS EN 39 · BS EN 74 · maker's data
  2. Damaged material is marked, set apart and kept out of serviceable stock.

    Good practice
  3. You can tell today how much material is on each site and in the yard, with issue and return notes reconciled.

    Good practice
  4. Hired material has an off-hire step, so hire stops when the scaffold comes down.

    Commercial good practice
  5. Components of different system makers are not mixed unless the makers or a design allow it.

    TG30:24 · maker's data

Access, falls and emergencies

  1. Scaffolders erecting and dismantling are protected from falls by a method planned in advance (advanced guardrail, or a harness with a planned anchor).

    SG4:22 · client rules
  2. There is a written rescue plan for a person hanging in a harness, with the kit and trained people on site.

    SG4:22 · client rules
  3. Ladders and access points are planned with the scaffold, not added afterwards.

    TG20:21 · CSM
  4. Work near overhead power lines or live plant has a permit and the clearances your client sets.

Client permit rules · CSM II-2
  5. Heat stress controls (water, shade, rest breaks, adjusted hours) are planned for the summer.

KSA midday work ban · client rules

Questions

Is this an audit or a certificate?

No. It is a self-check based on your own answers. It shows where your records or routines are thin before a client or an auditor finds it. It does not certify or approve anything.

Which standards does it follow?

The points come from common requirements in Saudi Aramco GI 8.001 and the Construction Safety Manual, TG20:21, TG30:24, SG4:22, BS 5975, BS EN 12811-1, BS EN 39 and BS EN 74. Your client's own rules decide what applies on their site. Check each document against its latest edition.

Is it approved by Saudi Aramco?

No. AL-YASSIN is independent and is not endorsed by Saudi Aramco or by any standards body. The check names documents so you know where to look.

What happens to my answers?

They stay on this device. Only if you ask for the result by email are your name, email and answers sent to AL-YASSIN, to send you the summary.

A self-check, not an audit, a certificate or legal advice. Names of documents are given so you can look them up; check each against its latest edition and your client's own rules.
