Questions in English; optional Arabic translation under each question.

What the exam covers

Each paper is drawn fresh from the bank across these six domains.

  • Hazard identification for scaffold work (6)
  • Risk rating and residual risk (5)
  • Hierarchy of control and choosing controls (6)
  • JSA, method statements, permits and toolbox talks (5)
  • Special risks: power lines, SIMOPS, weather, lifting and confined areas (5)
  • Review, change and monitoring (3)

Who it is for

Supervisors, engineers, safety staff and permit receivers who write or check scaffold risk assessments. No degree check: the certificate is issued when you pass in one timed sitting.

How it works

  1. 1

    Sit it in one go

30 questions, 30 minutes, on your phone or computer. Each question has its own time; no going back. Leaving the page is recorded but never stops the exam: a clean pass is certified, a pass with leaving gets a training certificate.

  2. 2

Your name and email at the end. The score and the domain breakdown arrive free by email.

  3. 3

    Pass at 70%

You get a certificate with a number and a QR code. Valid one year, renewed free by passing again.

  4. 4

    Challenge a colleague

Every result comes with a challenge link. Exam starts from your link are counted to you.

Sample questions

Three questions from the bank, with the answer and the reference. The real paper has 30.

Q1During dismantling of a tube and fitting scaffold, the crew wants to remove all ties first to speed up the job. Which hazard does this create?
  1. The working platforms become overloaded with stacked boards and fittings
  2. The base plates sink into the ground faster
  3. The scaffold can lose stability and overturn or collapse
  4. The toe boards can no longer stop falling tools

Answer: The scaffold can lose stability and overturn or collapse Ties give lateral stability; removing them ahead of the lifts being struck leaves a free-standing structure that can overturn. Overloading is a use-phase hazard, not the result of early tie removal. NASC SG4:22. Verify against the latest edition.

Q2On a 5×5 matrix, Risk = Likelihood (1-5) × Severity (1-5). Bands: 1-4 Low, 5-9 Medium, 10-16 High, 20-25 Very High. Falling from an incomplete lift is rated Likelihood 4, Severity 5. What is the rating?
  1. 9, Medium
  2. 16, High
  3. 20, Very High
  4. 25, Very High

Answer: 20, Very High 4 × 5 = 20, which falls in the 20-25 Very High band. 9 comes from adding instead of multiplying. general good practice. Verify against the latest edition.

Q3A gauge at 6 m must be read every shift, needing a scaffold each time. Which control sits highest in the hierarchy?
  1. Train the operator in safe ladder climbing
  2. Erect a permanent scaffold with double guardrails and toe boards
  3. Relocate the gauge or fit a remote reading at grade
  4. Provide a harness and lanyard to the operator

Answer: Relocate the gauge or fit a remote reading at grade Removing the need to work at height is elimination, the top of the hierarchy. A permanent guarded scaffold is good collective protection but still requires work at height. Work at Height Regulations 2005 (UK). Verify against the latest edition.
